TikTok Recipe to Text: Save Ingredients and Steps You Can Cook From

Turn a TikTok recipe into text: copy the spoken steps free, then add quantities from the description and on-screen text. One note you can cook from.

A TikTok recipe is quick to watch and slow to cook from. You end up pausing with floury hands to catch "how many grams?" This guide turns one video into a single note with the ingredients and numbered steps.

One thing first: no free tool pulls a whole recipe out of TikTok on its own. Our tool copies what the creator says. The amounts usually sit somewhere else, and you add those yourself in two short steps.

1. Know where the recipe lives

A TikTok recipe is usually spread across three places:

  • What the creator says. TikTok turns this into captions. In TikTok's words, "Auto-generated captions use speech recognition technology to generate text for audio or video content" (TikTok's guide to auto-generated captions).
  • The description under the video. Creators can write a long description, and many put the full ingredient list there.
  • Text on screen. Typed labels and stickers are added separately with TikTok's Text tool. They aren't speech, so they don't appear in the captions.

Our tool reads the first one only. It reads the caption track and never listens to the audio.

2. Get the spoken steps as text

  1. In TikTok, tap Share on the recipe video and copy the link.
  2. Paste it into the TikTok transcript tool.
  3. Press Pick every word.

It works on public videos up to 60 minutes long that already have captions. A spoken recipe usually gives you the method in full: what goes in the pan, in what order, and what to watch for.

3. Copy or download it

Press Copy, or use Download and pick Plain text for a clean note with no timestamps.

Before you move on, type "grams", "cup" or "minutes" into Find a word or phrase. That shows you exactly which amounts and timings the creator said out loud.

4. Add the quantities from the description

In our tests, a creator talked through a pasta recipe and named every ingredient, but said no amounts. The grams were all in the description.

The result card shows the start of the description beside the video, cut short. It isn't included when you press Copy or download a file. So:

  • open the post in TikTok and copy the description, or
  • follow the creator's link to their full recipe if they give one.

Check the two against each other. In that same test the creator said "linguine" while the description said "Fettuccine". Go with what you can see in the video.

5. Handle on-screen ingredients and music-only videos

If the amounts only appear as text on screen, pause the video, take a screenshot and copy the words from it:

  • Android or iPhone: copy text with Google Lens. Open the screenshot in Lens, tap the text, then tap Select text and Copy.
  • iPhone: copy text with Live Text. In Photos, touch and hold a word, drag the grab points, then tap Copy. Apple says Live Text needs an iPhone XS, iPhone XR or later with iOS 15 or later, and it isn't available in all regions or languages.

Recipe videos set to music with no talking have no captions, so our tool shows "We couldn't get that transcript." That's expected. For those, the description and screenshots are all you have.

6. Make it cookable

Put it all in one note:

  • Ingredients at the top, from the description and any screenshots.
  • Method underneath as numbered steps, trimmed from the transcript.

Then watch the video once more with the note open and fix anything that doesn't match. That one pass catches swapped ingredients and missed timings.

Where your recipe goes

The TikTok tool uses our server to fetch the captions from the public video. Your last 12 transcripts stay in your own browser's history, on your device. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits. Your screenshots and notes stay with you.
