How do I get the transcript of a TikTok video?
Open the video in TikTok, tap Share, then Copy link. Paste that link into shinmuscat and press Pick every word. The full transcript appears with timestamps in a few seconds.
Is shinmuscat really free and unlimited?
Yes. There is no paid plan, no daily limit and no account. It is a one-person side project with an optional tip jar, and that is the whole business model.
Does it work on every TikTok?
It works on public videos up to 10 minutes long that have captions. TikTok adds auto captions to most videos, so that covers nearly everything. Private videos, and the rare video with no captions at all, will not work.
What formats can I download?
Plain text for pasting into a doc, SRT for video editors and YouTube, and VTT for web players. Each one keeps the timestamps.
Do you keep my transcripts or my links?
No. Your last 12 transcripts are saved in your own browser so you can reopen them. Nothing is stored on our servers and there is no account to tie them to.
Do I need to log in to TikTok?
No. shinmuscat only reads the public page for the video, so you never sign in and never hand over your credentials.
Is shinmuscat affiliated with TikTok?
No. It is an independent tool and is not endorsed by or connected to TikTok or ByteDance.
Why doesn't it support YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels?
Because supporting them would mean the site could not stay free. TikTok publishes a caption file with every video, so shinmuscat only has to read it. Instagram Reels have no caption file, so the audio would need to run through a speech-to-text service, and that costs money per minute. YouTube blocks caption requests from any server, so Shorts would need a paid proxy or API. Either way, the cost gets passed on as a paid plan, a signup wall or ads. Keeping shinmuscat free, clean and fast is the whole reason it exists, so it stays TikTok only.
Can I get a TikTok transcript on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any browser on iPhone, Android or desktop, so there is nothing to install. Copy the link from the TikTok app, open shinmuscat, paste and press Pick every word.
How is shinmuscat different from other TikTok transcript generators?
Most transcript tools are freemium: a few free minutes, then a signup wall, a watermark or a paid plan. shinmuscat has none of that. The trade-off is that it reads the video's existing captions instead of transcribing audio, so a video with no captions will not work.
