Is the screen recorder really free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark, no time limit and no paid tier. It is the same one-person project as the TikTok transcript tool, with an optional tip jar.
Where does my recording go?
Nowhere but your device. The recording happens entirely in your browser, using your camera, microphone and screen directly. Nothing is uploaded, and shinmuscat never sees the video.
Can it record audio, including system audio on a Mac?
Yes for your microphone. For system or tab audio, it depends on your browser: Chrome and Edge on Mac only let a site capture the audio of one shared browser tab, not the whole system, while Windows can usually share full system audio. Safari does not support system audio capture at all.
How does transcription work without uploading my video?
shinmuscat downloads a small speech-recognition model (Whisper) straight to your browser the first time you transcribe, then runs it on your device. The audio never leaves your computer.
Does it work on my phone?
Screen recording needs a desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) because phones do not expose a screen-capture API to websites. Camera-only recording works on most phone browsers.
